The interview will center around the blog she wrote for the museum which described how Civil War nurses wrote about the trauma they witnessed. Melissa DeVelvis has a PhD in history from the University of South Carolina, specializing in the Civil War era, gender studies, and sensory and emotions history. She just successfully defended her dissertation about women and the secession crisis in South Carolina entitled “Gendering Secession: Women and Politics in South Carolina, 1859-1861.”
