Hidden History at the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum

COVID-19 and closures won’t stop us from sharing the incredible lessons we can learn from studying medical care during the Civil War!

Director of Interpretation Jake Wynn will talk with Natalie Sweet of the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum about the hidden stories of Civil War medicine in their collection. During the program, Natalie Sweet will showcase the Julia Wheelock collection, which provides insight into the life of a Civil War Union nurse and her patients. She will also display and discuss medical items related to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, including a lock of hair taken at the autopsy of Lincoln.

Natalie Sweet is the program and education coordinator at the ALLM. She has served as a fellow for the Lincoln Institute of Leadership and Public Policy, the book review editor of The Lincoln Herald, and has numerous articles published on the subjects of the Lincoln assassination, the residents of the Lincoln White House, and Lincoln and the rule of law.
