Join us at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine on March 4 at 2 PM as staff member Rachel Moses examines the role of prostitution in the nation’s bloodiest conflict.

Who were some of the women who turned to selling sex and how did it impact their lives? How did residents view the “world’s oldest profession” as it played out before their eyes in their towns and cities? What led Nashville, Tennessee to legalize the practice in 1863? How did women’s rights groups view this profession? Learn the answers to these questions and more during the discussion.

Rachel Moses is the Pry House Field Hospital Museum Site Administrator and Retail Manager. She received her MA in History in 2007 from Youngstown State University, where she focused on women’s history. She is a contributing author to Clara Barton Civil War Humanitarian and is co-leader of NMCWM’s book club, Between the Lines.
