Physicians’ stories provide a window on Civil War medicine.
Join us at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in the Delaplaine Randall Conference Room on July 1 at 2:00 PM as author, lecturer, and retired physician Dr. Mick Bedard discusses the stories of three Connecticut surgeons during the Civil War.
Dr. Bedard’s talk will highlight several of Connecticut’s regimental surgeons and what they did and experienced. Their service will be used to discuss the advances that developed from Union Army medicine and will try to dispel the myths and bias held by some about Civil War medical care.
The presentation is included with admission to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and FREE for NMCWM members.
Robert “Mick” M. Bedard, MD was born in Massachusetts and graduated from Brown University and University of Cincinnati Medical School. Dr. Bedard retired in 2015 after a long career in the fields of allergy and immunology. He was president of the Madison, Wisconsin Civil War Roundtable and is the current treasurer of the Civil War Round Table of D.C. He has been a Union reenactor for over 30 years, and is currently active with the Kearsage Afterguard, a naval reenactment group. In addition to Union naval medicine, Dr. Bedard’s presentations include Connecticut physicians, and the history of the USS Kearsage.
