Children of War

January 27, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm EST

$10

Children of War 1200x600Young actors bring the Civil War to life in this original performance.

Actors from the Mid-Maryland Performing Arts Center theatrical troupe, Acting Up, will bring history to life in this original performance, “Children of War.” Each actor researched and created an original monologue, inspired by the letters and diaries of young people who lived through the Civil War. Performed together, these monologues allow audiences to experience the Civil War through a different perspective–that of the children it affected. Audience members will move through the galleries of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, encountering a new historical vignette in each room.

One of the young performers, Avery Powers explained the power of this performance, exclaiming “This project gave me a whole new perspective on history. Instead of a series of battles and dates to remember, a story about longing and loss and sorrow. That’s the more human side of history, the one that often goes overlooked.”

Join these young actors for a moving performance that will open your eyes to a new way to view the Civil War, and wars today. Showtimes will be at 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm, each followed by a brief talk-back with the actors and director. Don’t miss this unique theatrical experience.
