Join the staff of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine at Abolitionist Ale Works in Charles Town, West Virginia on Monday, December 3 at 7:00 PM for the latest installment in the “Pub History” series!

Join us on December 3, the day after the 158th anniversary of John Brown’s execution mere blocks from where it happened at Abolitionist Ale Works.

Called crazy by some, and a martyr by others, John Brown led an unsuccessful attempt to start a slave insurrection at the United States Armory and Arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia (today West Virginia). Upon his capture he was brought to Charles Town for a trial which captivated the nation. Brown’s trial and eventual execution of John Brown played a significant role in leading the country towards the Civil War. A short program will cover the legacy of John Brown as well as his surprising connection to Civil War medicine.

Besides discussing history over a drink, attendees should also get ready for Civil War-themed trivia. Experts and novices alike should find this enjoyable as the questions will range from easy to hard.

Mark this occasion with the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and Abolitionist Ale Works: hear dramatic courtroom stories, discover the surprising cast of characters present at John Brown’s hanging, test your knowledge of the Civil War with some trivia, win a prize or two, and taste some of the best beer West Virginia has to offer.
