Director of Education John Lustrea will talk with author Dr. Megan Bever about her recent book At War with King Alcohol: Debating Drinking and Masculinity in the Civil War. Liquor was essential to both soldiers and medical treatments in both the Union and Confederate armies. Dr. Bever will discuss the widespread misuse of alcohol, its effects on the military, and the relationship between drinking, morality, and masculinity.
Dr. Megan Bever is associate professor of history at Missouri Southern State University. She earned her PhD in history from the University of Alabama.
