Robert M. Dunkerly will discuss the terrible explosion in Richmond that took the lives of 50 people

Director of Education John Lustrea will talk with historian Robert M. Dunkerly about the 1863 accidental explosion in the Confederate ordnance factory on Brown’s Island in Richmond that took the lives of 50 people, including many women and children. His research traces which hospitals the patients were treated at and where they were buried.
Robert M. Dunkerly (Bert) is a historian, award-winning author, and speaker who is actively involved in historic preservation and research. He holds a degree in History from St. Vincent College and a Masters in Historic Preservation from Middle Tennessee State University.
