“Mercy again asserts itself” – Treating the Wounded at Cedar Creek

Join National Museum of Civil War Medicine historian John Lustrea and National Park Service Ranger James Horn in Middletown, Virginia at 7:00 PM for a special free History at Sunset program put on by the NPS. The program will feature an overview of Civil War medicine, the treatment of the wounded after the Battle of Cedar Creek, and an amputation demonstration. The program will be held in the historic St. Thomas Chapel which was used as a hospital by the Union army after the Battle of Cedar Creek.

The Battle of Cedar Creek left in its wake over 8,600 Americans killed, wounded and captured; the second bloodiest engagement fought in the Shenandoah Valley.

The program will be begin at 7:00 PM in the historic St. Thomas Chapel in Middletown, Virginia. The event is free, and no registration is required.
