Heroes and Villains – A Downtown Frederick Walking Tour

Join NMCWM historian Jake Wynn on a guided walking tour of Downtown Frederick on Saturday, June 3 focused on the heroes and villains in the city’s colorful Civil War history.
Through four long years at war, Frederick played as a backdrop to many of the conflict’s most important moments. With 8,000 residents, this small community witnessed hundreds of thousands of soldiers march through town on their way to Antietam and Gettysburg. They received close to 10,000 wounded soldiers in the fall of 1862 following the Battle of Antietam.
In the long hot summer of 1864, the city faced its most dire situation. Confederate forces under Jubal Early ransomed the city for $200,000 before battling Union forces at Monocacy on July 9.
This tour will explore the personal stories of some of the key players in these pivotal moments in American history: good and bad.
The program will begin outside the National Museum of Civil War Medicine at 3:00 PM.
This will be a “pay-what-you-please” program. Early registration is encouraged.
