Clara Barton’s Mission of Mercy – Downtown Frederick Walking Tour

August 5, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

Explore Clara Barton’s work in Maryland during the Civil War while touring historic Downtown Frederick

Clara Barton MM CarouselOn Saturday, August 5 at 3 PM, join NMCWM Program Coordinator Jake Wynn on a guided walking tour of Civil War sites in Downtown Frederick detailing the work of Clara Barton and other volunteers during America’s bloodiest conflict. Individuals and organizations worked diligently in Frederick during the Civil War to save lives and restore dignity to the wounded, sick, and dying soldiers in the city’s war-time hospitals. This tour will also connect with an organization providing similar services in the region today.

Our latest “First Saturday” walking tour is a partnership with Mission of Mercy, a non-profit organization “providing free healthcare, free dental care and free prescription medications to the uninsured, underinsured and those who ‘fall through the cracks’ of our healthcare system.” The tour will lead visitors to City Hall, where Mission of Mercy will have volunteers stationed to discuss their work today and how they’ve been inspired by the work of those like Clara Barton.

This “pay-what-you-please” walking tour will begin at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine at 3 PM. Early registration is highly encouraged.
