“Behind the Screams” will take visitors through the darkened galleries of the museum and examine the Civil War’s darker side on Friday, October 28th.
On this lantern-led tour of Frederick’s most haunted building, guides and volunteers will tell stories from the bloodiest American war: stories of suffering, but also tales of hope amid the horror.
The American Civil War left more than 700,000 people dead and millions more scarred for life. In a war that came before the age of microbiology and germ theory, mistakes and missteps were inevitable. Archaic thinking led to treatments that caused more suffering and assisted in the rampant spread of infection and disease.
