The 29th Conference on Civil War Medicine

The 29th Conference on Civil War Medicine will be held May 3-5, 2024. Hosted by the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, it will be a weekend filled with exciting tours, programs, and experiences.

The event will feature a guided tour of Antietam National Battlefield led by Scott Woodard, military historian at the US Army Medical Department Center of History and Heritage, US Army Medical Center of Excellence in Texas, and author of Combat Readiness Through Medicine at the Battle of Antietam. Attendees will get exclusive access to the Locust Springs Hospital site, the location of the largest hospital on the Union left flank.

The conference will also feature lectures by Dana Shoaf, new NMCWM Director of Interpretation, and a lecture from Emilie Amt, author of the critically praised Black Antietam.

Cost is $150 for Museum members and $175 for non-members and includes a reception on Friday evening with a tasting of Civil War-inspired spirits and exclusive access to a showing of Clara Barton’s camp stove as well as lunch on Saturday at the Pry House Field Hospital Museum.
