Native Americans EnlistingSee the Civil War from a unique perspective: the Native American fighters who fought on both sides of the conflict.

Notoriety has been growing for the impressive role that Native Americans have played in American conflicts across the centuries. Tribes fought on both sides in the Seven Years’ War and the American Revolution. The same is true during the American Civil War. Both North and South deployed Native American warriors who played a vital role in many of the war’s biggest battles and campaigns.

NMCWM staff member Meg Gaulding will explore the role that Native American fighters played during the Civil War and the cultural impact that it had upon on those who fought and those who remained on the home front. She will also make comparisons to more modern American conflicts, in which Native Americans continue to play a role.

How better to escape the heat of a Maryland summer than to sit back and enjoy a talk from up-and-coming Civil War historians? Join the National Museum of Civil War Medicine on every third Thursday evening this summer for unique Civil War Talks you won’t hear anywhere else.
