Join us on Monday, March 22 at 4:00 PM on YouTube for a virtual history happy hour hosted by the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. You can tune in live by visiting youtube.com/user/nmcwm at the scheduled time.

Director of Interpretation Jake Wynn, with Emily Huebner of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area and Dr. Melissa DeVelvis, will spotlight their favorite women from Civil War medicine in this Virtual History Happy Hour on the National Museum of Civil War Medicine’s YouTube Channel. Performing the roles of nurse, doctor, relief worker, soldier, spy, and much more, the contributions of women during the Civil War are nearly limitless. Grab your favorite beverage and join this excellent panel of historians discussing their favorite Civil War women.

Emily Huebner is the Assistant Director of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area, supporting heritage tourism in Maryland’s Carroll, Frederick, and Washington Counties. Prior to joining the Heritage Area in 2017, she worked at the Maryland State Archives on the Study of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland and the Revolutionary War-era Maryland 400 project. She holds a BA in history and Spanish, and was recently accepted to the History Leadership Institute, run by the American Association for State and Local History.

Melissa DeVelvis has a PhD in history from the University of South Carolina, specializing in the Civil War era, gender studies, and sensory and emotions history. She just successfully defended her dissertation about women and the secession crisis in South Carolina entitled “Gendering Secession: Women and Politics in South Carolina, 1859-1861.”

Jake Wynn is the Director of Interpretation at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. He also writes independently at the Wynning History blog.
